Notable additions since Live Messenger 8.0 include:
- Roaming identity allows your MSN Display Picture, Personal Message and Screen Name to automatically 'follow you' when you sign-in on on any computer.
- Display Pics, Winks, Backgrounds and Emoticons now use updated and easier to use menus with a 'recently used' list of your graphics for quick access. Messenger 8.1 also includes a new emoticon and an updated Messenger contact emoticon (shortcut: (M)).
- Vista compatibility has been improved, and Messenger 8.1 works quite well with Windows Vista.
